Welcome to the Kokoda Trail

The Isurava Monument

The Kokoda Trail is one of the world's great treks, linking the southern and northern coast of Papua New Guinea, it is a challenge to be enjoyed by the fit bushwalker. The Kokoda Trail and Sogeri area have a history of bitter fighting between Australian and Japanese armies during the early days of the war in the Pacific in World War II.

The 96 km Kokoda trail passes through rugged mountainous country of rainforest, jungles of fern, orchids, birds and clean mountain streams which tumble into steep valleys.

The unspoilt villages throughout the Kokoda Track will welcome you and the Koiari and Orokaiva people will greet you with smiles and tempt you with seasonal fruit and vegetables.

Trek with us and have an adventure of a lifetime!!

Guaranteed, year-round departures

All the treks that we create are guaranteed to depart, with a minimum of one person, so no need to worry about last minute cancellations. Every year we are contacted by trekkers, who have had their trek cancelled at short notice by other operators. When comparing trek operators, ensure you ask this question. Visit our trekking schedule for upcoming treks taking into consideration we can create any date range to suit your needs seven days a week commencing in either direction as we are PNG based.

We offer the best Accommodation in Kokoda

All our treks stay at Orohaven Kokoda Retreat which the best accommodation in Kokoda. Whether you start or finish in Kokoda, Orohaven is the ideal place to stay. Orohaven provides good accommodation and facilities, including a flushing toilet, a hot shower, and a bar selling ice cold beer and drinks. You will also love their pizza's cooked in a wood fired oven. Make sure you ask other operators where you will spend the night in Kokoda before booking your trek.

Experienced guides and porters

We employ local guides to provide you with a rich cultural as well as an historical experience. We also offer Australian guided treks monthly at a very competative price. In the past six years over 4,000 trekkers have completed the Kokoda Track with us – with many coming back several times. Many of our guides have been trained by Soc Kienzle who values sharing the history with the the local guides. Why not request to walk with Brendan Buka pictured left, who is the Kokoda Trail record holder in both directions. Brendan's record is 16:34 hours set in 2008 from Ower's Corner to Kokoda.

Small, personalised groups

We keep our groups small (to a maximum of 18 trekkers) so that you get easy access to guides and can appreciate the spectacular scenery along the track. On most treks the average group size is six trekkers – ensuring you receive the best personalised experience. Some operators ignore the Kokoda Trail regulations and walk with extremely large groups of 30 or more trekkers. This means you are walking with about 80 people once you include the porters.

Advice on how to prepare for the trek

All trekkers receive an introductory pack which includes a DVD of the trek, a book on Kokoda by Bill James, and checklists of what to bring. This ensures you can adequately prepare for the trek so you get the most out of the adventure.

Quality packages at competitive prices

Our trekking packages include fresh local village food, high quality ration packs. We are a Kokoda Licensed Commercial operator and all our guides carry a satelite phone for your safety. We are one of the few trekking companies to have our own vehicles to get you on and off the track, making the process efficient and reliable.
If you are a member of a sporting club, group of friends, or are trekking for a special occasion, consider one of our private treks or custom treks that can be tailored to suit your group’s needs.
